I had been enduring significant pain down my right leg for a number of months and despite lots of painkillers and physiotherapy there was little relief. In fact my condition deteriorated so my GP recommended an MRI and a referral to a consultant. Thankfully I was able to secure a prompt appointment with Mr Gnanalingham who reviewed my MRI scan with me and explained in good and understandable detail what the issue was. He diagnosed a prolapsed disc and explained that in most instances these resolve themselves with the right pain management and exercise. However he said that in my case because I have had this issue for a number of months that it would require intervention by either a pain killing injection or a discectomy. Mr Gnanalingham explained the pros and cons of each option and I opted for the operation as I felt the injection would only give me short term relief and not resolve the problem. I must admit I was extremely nervous about an operation on my back but Mr Gnanalingham was very supportive and whilst he explained the risks in detail he concurred with me that this was likely to be the best option for me. Throughout my time in hospital and during my convalescence both the hospital staff and Mr Gnanalingham were extremely supportive and attentive. Indeed I was free to call him if I was concerned about anything post operation which I did avail of. The operation was a great success and I am now pain free thanks to an excellent physician and the team at Spire Manchester.

I am a member of staff at BMI Alexandra hospital in Cheadle. Mr Gnanalingham was recommended to me by my colleagues after I had an accident and hurt my back. He was absolutely brilliant! He is a very understanding, empathic person who is also very caring and listens to you properly; you can tell this by the accuracy of your follow up letters. I would definitely say that I had every confidence in him and that he is also a lovely, caring person at heart.

I have been a patient of Mr Gnanalingham at Alexander Hospital. He was always very professional, highly skilled and very kind to me. He was always concerned about my well being and he always listened to everything that worried me. His colleagues and peers that worked with him as well as his receptionist never rushed me and were always professional - and were always asking how I was doing. I would highly recommend Mr Gnanalingham to anybody. I am nearly 80 years and it was comforting to know that I was in his care. Thank you once again to a wonderful doctor and team.

Mr Gnanalingham has looked after me with great professionalism for a number of years now. He really is a true gentleman at all time, patient and genuine. How such an obviously intelligent man can be so unassuming and humble is a credit to him and the caring profession he serves so well.

I am just recovering from a Right L5/S1 discectomy & decompression under the care of Mr Gnanalingham. After being house bound in severe pain for 10 weeks and a weeks hospital stay we decided to seek a second opinion by paying privately. Mr Gnanalingham reviewed my scan results and went through my options. We are due to get married in 4 months and we were going to cancel. Through Mr Gnanalingham’s help, advice and time we chose surgery as our best option. We were booked in within a week as he knew how important this was and our time frame was very limited. Even though this meant changing his schedule around he did it without hesitation. On the morning of surgery I was very anxious, worried and quite worked up. Mr Gnanalingham came and talked through my worries, the operation and how long I would be in theatre. Then the anaesthetist did the same. Both really making me feel at ease. His calm reassuring manner helped so much. Post surgery Mr Gnanalingham came back at night to make sure I was ok, comfortable for the night and say goodbye. What a fabulous Consultant. Even now at home the aftercare has been outstanding. His secretary is always at the end of an email if we have any questions, as well as follow up appointments. I can not thank Mr Gnanalingham and his team enough for giving me my life back and enabling me to walk down the aisle in May. I will be forever grateful.
